Early Spring 07 Bird ID Thread
I couldn’t wait for Jaedon to start a new ID thread :blush2: Sorry Jaedon.

What is this bird??? It was about the size of chickadee, maybe smaller. I hate to post bad images of birds for ID’s, but that’s usually what I get the first time I see them. These little guys would not come out of this brush.

    edit- I think I found it... A golden-crowned kinglet?

I set up the tripod and ran an extention cord from the camera to the house and took some shots of the house sparrows flying to the feeder. When I went back out to get the camera this woodpecker was at the feeder. He stayed around the nearby tree and eventually flew back to the feeder. I was about 8 feet away.

I know what kind of woodpecker it is, but lets see if anyone wants to guess or research it.

OK, so I'm in the habit of training my lens on any object flying my way. I shot these thinking they were mallards. Northern Shovelers? If so, I have to rethink looking at ducks because any I've seen at a distance I immediately dismiss as mallards.

Terryger, that is one cool looking bird! I can't wait to see what Paul comes up with.

My first banded birds :D I can’t figure out if they are herring or Iceland gulls (they were hanging around together)… and, what I really can’t figure out is why they are banded??? The bird in the first image has a band on each leg, and the bird in the second image only has one. Why would they band gulls?

Thanks Paul, do you have any idea why they would band such a common bird?

This is either a purple finch or the most colorful house finch I've ever seen... I can't tell them apart.

    Taking a break
Caught these 2 taking a rest while about another 100 circled overhead. I guess we have some great currents around here because these guys are gathering numbers rapidly. These were resting in a pine(?) tree about 2 blocks behind my house. So naturally, I had to take a look see. These were only 2 of about 20 in the tree.
