Interesting, all the skipper species here in the UK hold their wings like K that.
Hindwings flas, forewings at 45 degrees to horizontal.

This skipper is different it seems, as all the wings are at 45 degrees.

Is this a silver spotted skipper by any chance? My birding buddy always talks about them on his butterfly bush .

I'm not really sure what you have there, sorta the LBJ of the butterfly world, but it ain't the Silver-spotted Skipper, (Epargyreus clarus)...

Is my flutterby a Aphrodite Fritillary (Speyeria aphrodite) maybe? I think so(no a great spangled due to missing the forewing spot)

Since we're all gettin' "skippy" here...

Here's a California species that I shot last year. Not sure which species it is, so perhaps someone can help to identify it.

Now that is more like our skippers
Same orange/brown colours, same habit with the hindwings flat and forewings at 45 degrees.

Can't identify US species though, worry.

Speyeria aphrodite, is what I was leaning toward, but I was tired when I looked it up. I am confidant in saying it is now.
