    DEJ and mallard hen

I purposely tried to overexpose this dark-eyed junco to bring out some detail in its eyes. I guess doing that made the snow too bright.

And just a mallard hen… I wish it was a drake.

    Thank you for looking.

I think the Junco picture is very nice. The snow isn't totally blown out anyway. And the mallard shots are good as well. Although I'm sure she'd be embarrassed that you caught her in those poses!

I think you have done a brilliant job on these, i also think that the snow looks fine, the mallard shots prove how far you have come with your photography Copy, excellent action shots, and the focus point on the birds are spot on.
You should be really pleased with these.
Look forward to seeing your drake soon.

I think the snow in your DEJ photo looks fine. Getting detail in black subjects, with white objects in the frame, can be a challenge. I was shooting my black lab in the snow yesterday. I had to pretty much blow out the snow, just to see her eyes...

I agree with the others. The DEJ shot looks great - exposure and detail on the bird is perfect. Sure some of the snow may get blown out, but the eye sees snow like this a lot of times too.

The sharpness is much improved too.
