Deer, deer, and more deer

Had to see 20+ deer at North Park Village a few weeks ago. The population is out of control.

They do photograph well, though...

There's a ton of chainlink around this area and they tend to get really ripped up when their in velvet, I think from pushing against the fence trying to graze the other side. My guess would be that's where that little guy snapped his. Poor guy.

I find it interesting to see the bucks still have their antlers. I would have thought they would have shed them by now. Of all of the deer I have been seeing in the last couple of weeks, I have yet to see one with antlers.

I'd say they're 50-50 right now shed or with antlers. Most of the big bucks like Bum Ear have already shed. Oddly most of the babies with their first year antlers haven't. The smaller older bucks are mixed with some still having their racks and some having shed them. Last year there was one good size buck who had his still in mid-March. That was really surprising.

Nice images CaraRose, IQ is great as usual. I would second the comment about the bucks still having antlers - haven't seen any in our part of the world with them still on - I guess it depends on where you live.

Another nice series Cara. Our white-tails have shed their antlers and most of the muleys have, but still a few hanging tough. Just got a nice shot of a very large 3X4 muley last week - I can't imagine he'll have them much longer.
