    Hey Paul,

You're real close, it's a black rat snake.

With no more than the head to go by it's a tough call.

    Thanks.

Thought I should ID the animals in the photos...

    1. Fox Squirrel (Sciurus niger)
    2. Black Rat Snake (Elaphe obsoleta)
    3. Obvious
    4. White-tailed Doe (Odocoileus virginianus)
    5. Yellowbelly Slider (Chrysemys scripta)
    6. Black Rat (in Bluebird box)
    7. 800mm Moon
    8. Carpenter Bee (Xylocopa virginica)

Thanks Eric, I try to catch snakes with their tongues out.

    Thanks Loupy.

The Black Rat is, by far, the most common snake here on the farm. It's not uncommon finding one in a Bluebird box and, on rare occasions, in a Wood Duck box.

What was so impressive about this snake was the size! All that snake in such a small box.

I remove, relocate, and release them.

    Here's another one Eric.

The first snake is Coluber constrictor, black racer. Or whatever the new taxonomy is, I know they are shaking up the north american Colubrids. The birdhouse snake is certainly a black ratsnake. The hognose is just freeking awesome.

Good call, you're right. It's a Black Racer (I get Black Rat on the brain).

I probably should have noted, that's a black phase Hognose.

    Thanks for catching that!

Great images, but that lightning image is just great. I don't have much opportunity to take these kind of shots where I live as most of out T-storms occur during daylight hours, so it is difficult to get the dark background, so I do enjoy seeing those that others have captured. Thanks for sharing.
