    A Cooky Character

You know how dragonflies briefly flick their head to the side every so often? I happened to catch one doing it twice.

Apparently they do it to make faces.

The last one reminded me of one of those cartoon characters after they get hit in the head with a frying pan. All that is missing is a ring of stars going around its head.

    (these are all massive crops)

Even if they are massive crops they are soooo sharp. I love them all but #2 cracks me up, it's expression is wonderful.

    What lens did you use.

Cool shots. However, I think he's making eyes at you. This must be what is called a flirting dragonfly.

Cassie - these are with the Canon 300mm f/4L IS at the minimum focus distance (1.5 meters) with the 40D. No extension tubes (the IS on the 300mm still won't work with tubes on the 40D - weird). Thanks for commenting.

    Frank - thanks for looking!

Mike - lol, definitely coy in #2. Shy guy I guess Looks drunk in #3

Here is the original uncropped image (of #1 in this case).

Wouldn't do anything with crops that extensive but to show for fun here.

    Re: A Cooky Character

Thanks Loupey, I haven't been out with my 300mm lens for ages, I've been so busy. But seeing your images of these dragonflies makes me think I should make more of an effort and get out there.

    Cassie.
