    Cercropia Moth

A lady flagged me down while I was out walking my dogs this afternoon. She had a great big moth on the side of one of her flower boxes and she wanted to share it with others. It was a cercropia moth. The largest moth in North America. This is only the 2nd one I have ever seen. It had just crawled out of it's cocoon. She has another cocoon on a branch not to far from this one.

    Beautiful specimen there.

Nice to hear how excited the lady was to have them.

    Lovely fella.
Now if she's lucky the next one to emerge will be a female...
I would keep dropping by just in case !

    Re: Cercropia Moth

Thanks for looking everyone. I was hoping to get back to this place last night, but we walked the dogs in a different direction. Hopefully tonight if it's not storming like they say it's going to.

Loupey, This woman was THRILLED to have this on her flower pot! She even flagged her boss down as he drove by. She had found the cocoon last fall when she was putting her flower pots away but she didn't know what it was. She was careful not to damage it tho, in hopes of something coming out of it. She was rewarded nicely!

I think I will make her a print of one of my images.
