Busy morning at the Bluebird house

I sat for about 90 minutes watching one of my nest boxes this morning. When I first got there, it appeared that a pair of bluebirds were taking things out of the house, then they began bringing in more materials to build their nest. A pair of nuthatches stopped by to check out the nest box, along with a chickadee. . Then 3 brown headed cowbirds swooped in to check things out. When I finally left, the bluebirds where still working on the nest, undeterred by all of their visitors. I'm hoping for some better photos in the coming weeks. These are all pretty heavy crops. You can really notice how the quality of the light changed throughout the morning too.

glad to see the bluebirds making use of the box, but all cowbirds eggs should be removed ;-)

I like the nuthatch. They are really fun to watch and sometimes seem to be very curious. - TF

These are great shots. Activity indeed, awesome.
Do you have to hide in a blind or are you far enough away they don't take notice?
I look forward to you next series.

    Thanks.

    Bob,
I was far enough away that they didn't seem to notice. I was dressed head to toe in camo and sat on the ground near some brush. These are all heavy crops from images shot at 500mm. I was sitting even farther away the morning before and had a chickadee land on my shoulder. I'm in the process of building a meal worm feeder to help draw them in closer to me, and I will move in closer as the nesting season progresses.

I look forward to your next post on this subject. I remember your tripod remote shutter release shots at the blue bird box from last year. They were awesome. I really want to try this myself. So far I've only been able to attract Wrens to my backyard bluebird boxes.
I've also attracted Flickers to a large box I built but the squirrels like to take it over dang-it.

I got one a couple weeks ago. This will allow me to use my 40D with a frame rate of 6.5fps vs my old DRebel at 2.5fps. I will also be able to trip the shutter from farther away than what I was with my DRebel.
