    Brown bears & an eagle

These 3 shots were from a trip I made to Katmai National Park in Alaska many years ago. It was quite the experience. The bears were my sole reason for going. Actually, the eagle was from a previous trip to Kodiak Island. These were from the days of 35mm. They were all shot with a Nikon FA and Tokina 60 - 300mm lens. The reason I eventually got frustrated with photography was because, it didn't make any diference where I had the prints made, I was never happy with the results. They always turned out way too contrasty. When I tried studio photography I learned the reason. Except for professional labs, all others use cheap consumer grade paper which prints everything at high contrast so even poor shots from beginners will be acceptable on paper. I even started my own color darkroom at one time. Unfortunately, you really can't afford printing 4 X 6's yourself. I loved my 8 X 10's, but talk about time consuming. I'm happy it's all history now. The advent of digital really makes photography more enjoyable. You have much more control over the finished product.

I can relate to you, Mike. It took me about 1 ~ 2 hours to make one acceptable color print. That reminds me, I have an entire color darkroom setup available for sale if anyone is interested ...

Alaska is near the top of my "places to go before I die" list. I'm glad that you were able to make it there. I can only imagine what it is like up there.

    Thanks for sharing these.

Mike, I don't care if these came from a browny or a hassy with a digital back. Great images are taken by the photog, not the camera Still to this day, it's hard to find a lab that can print a file/ neg correctly!

The screaming eagle is a great image and those kodiaks are images to be very proud of!

Hey anyone want some nikon film burning cameras cheap

    Aagh Sushi

Lovely shots and the ones of the bear - question did he fall?

With the eagle, personally I would consider cropping some of the green on the bottom and a tad from the top.

Did he fall? This bear was a pro. She was teaching her kids how to fish. She was very talented. I just wish I could catch fish as easily as her. She was a delight to watch.
