    Boundary Waters Sunset

My wife and I spent 3 nights/4 days in the BWCA earlier this week. We opted to take our kayaks instead of a more traditional canoe. (Note to self: next time use a canoe!) We covered over 30 miles, including portages, and had a lot of fun. For camera gear, all I took was my G9 in order to save weight and space. I also took a really small, tripod like this one. This is a 5 shot HDR.

Nice capture of a beautiful area. I've heard there is/was a forest fire going in the Boundary Waters. Any evidence? Red sunrises and sunsets from the smoke in the air? - Terry

There was, and still is I believe, a big fire burning in the BWCA. The fire was to the east of us and moving east. All of the smoke from the fire went south east so we didn't see or smell anything of the fire despite the fact that were were only a few miles from where it started. There were reports of people being able to smell the smoke in Chicago before we left as well as reports of being able to smell it about an hour north of where we live but we didn't see or smell any of it. I was hoping to drive through some of that area on my way home but never did get to see any of the damage.

We could definitely smell it here just north of Chicago. – Terry

I've always wanted to get up to that area, your photo makes me want to get up there even more. I can't think of a better way to spend the weekend, in a kayak with a camera...... pure Heaven! Very nice shot!!

Oh nice !!! Your image brings me very nice memories from the boundary waters

    I canoed there in 1994

Beautiful country, that was the first time I saw a bald eagle , and it was fishing, while I had my SLR I couldn't get a shot

I remember that some portages were challenging , it was 4 of us, 2 canoes, personal stuff fit in a back pack plus the tent and food on separate packages , I remember the canoes becoming fairly heavy when the distance was more than a few meters

Very interesting to get my passport stamped to get into Canada , with the immigration office located at a tiny island in the middle of a huge lake

Also learned that flies can sting like hell ! they even follow the canoe into the large lakes and blatantly ignore the mosquito repellent
