    Birdie from Southern Japan

Recently returned from abroad. My longest lens was a 24-105mm and found myself surrounded by many warbler-like and vireo-ish birds.

Skittish as its North American counterpart but finally approached one that was too busy eating. Still, this is a high crop.

I'd bet they're closely related, from googling, Loupey's is a Japanese White Eye.

LOL, Cara! So after traveling there, taking early morning walks to try to get a shot, then coming back here and posting the image, and finally having a way to ID the bird (using your white eye reference), I find out that the local name for the bird is a mejiro. I spoke to my mother if she knew of the mejiro and she said "oh yes, they are trash birds - they steal rice" and consider them to be in the same league with crows

EDIT: my mother retracted her earlier comment. She said the mejiro are OK - she was thinking of another bird from her childhood days.

Beautiful bird !! The one from South Africa and the one from Japanese do look alike. The eyes in Dennis looks darker, but I wonder if that has to do with the perspective and exposure

Correct Cararose, that is indeed a japanese white eye. They are actually the same as our house sparrows or starlings, but far nicer looking

No matter what it eats or how it spends it's day it's a beautiful bird.
    Oh, welcome back Loupey.
