    Beyond the backdoor.

Not having too much time, and the weather here being aweful, i thought i would take the camera into the garden and see what my regular feathered visitors were doing.

The middle image doesn't load for me, but the robin and starling do. Great captures here, but as a birder , I can't stand those destructive starlings. European starlings are everywhere here and they drive native species out of their nesting areas and are causing a severe population drop in a few species such as redheaded woodpeckers.

Trade you, you come over and collect all the grey squirrels and take them home.
Then we get our Red squirrels out of their wooded northern ghettos.

Great shots, Bev. I have to agree with Paulnj on the starlings, though. amazing the difference in the two robins; ours here and yours there.

It's the second one you have to watch out for. They are territorial and will attack and drive off another male.
I saw a film of one where they nalied a stuffed robin to a fence and the local male attacked it and when the dummy wasn't scared off by quick attacks (feet first) or by pecking, then it landed on its head and tried to pull its eyes out.

    That is one bad robin.

    Re: Beyond the backdoor.

Alot of male birds on territory do that, especially the neotropical warbler types.

Not being familiar with your squirrel species, are you sure the grey squirrels in the UK are feral from the US? I know our smaller red squirrels can KILL the larger grey squirrels since they are very aggressive. If you find red squirrels here, you don't find greys too close by ;)

Bev , I love that stare down the male robin is giving you .

What you say is so true, i adore these little birds but on several occasions when i am out feeding them, they quite often will attack sparrows etc if they intrude on their food, sometimes holding them down and repeatedly pecking them, the noise is quite alarming. Iv attached two shots of my hand fed robin, i put one of these on my gallery but thought it might be worth viewing here.
