    Beginner focus question

One thing that is bugging me on my new Canon T3 is the 9 point autofocus. I don't want nine points, I want one. But there doesnt' seem to be a setting to turn off the 8 outside points, so I've been dealing with it. But I missed a LOT of shots this weekend when the outer focus points fixed on things that I didn't want to focus on. Luckily I took 500 shots of each bird and used manual focus a lot.

Seems the autofocus would be a lot more useful if I could turn off everything but the center point. Is there a way to do this that I'm missing?

I shoot Nikon but it seems to me you have something like predictive focus on. There should be a way to choose single point and then choose the point you want using the selector button on the back of the camera.

Yes there is a way to do this and it's very simple, but it depends on what mode you are shooting in. If you are shooting in the basic modes, you may not be able to change it, but if you are using P Tv Av or M you can select which point you want to use.

I just looked it up. It is on page 83 of your manual.

Excellent, that works great. Thanks guys. I wish I would have figured that out a few weeks ago. But I'm still in learning mode. I get my real lens in December. Thanks again.
