    Bad snake picture

    I know it's bad...

Does anyone know what kind of snake this might be?

you know, i like it. seems candid.

it's a garter snake, probably thamnophis sirtalis - although depending on where you are will influence the exact species. Locality data or a full body shot will help pinpoint which of the garters it is.

Here is another picture of the snake for identification purposes. I'm sooooo disappointed with the pictures I took today.... I wish the plants would have a little more in focus

(I put the border around the picture because it makes it easier for me to keep track of, not because I'm proud of the pic).

Looks like the eastern gartersnake, thamnophis sirtalis. It's tough to compose shots in situ like that, despite being very slow critters, snakes have the uncanny ability to totally disappear into the grass in seconds. I still think the first shot is a keeper.

I agree, looks like a garter snake. I took a picture of one the other day and had the same problem - it was hidden in the weeds and i couldn't hardly see it. Looks like you still got a fairly good capture of the head and most of the body.

catch that snake and don't let it deficate on you that's how I get my snake images usually. Beware of pitvipers though, I don't advise picking up a snake you can't ID as non venomous

whats wrong with it deficating on you? i'd rather that than get bit, even by a non venomous one. and i always treat all the snakes i catch as venomous, always practicing for the day when i may need to catch one.

Well , unless we are talking 10+ foot boids, I'll take a bite anyday over a musky crap. Gartersnakes stink far worse than the bite hurts.

I was bitten by my 16 foot indian python on my thigh, now that left a bruise
