    Anhinga eats a fish

The Anhinga AKA Water Turkey is an excellent fisherman, but after watching all the work and struggle to eat the capture, one must wonder if it is worth the effert.....

Nice series Ira, I guess the bird must swim about and spear the fish with its bill. Cool shots, I like the one where it is throwing the fish in the air but there is that piece of weed on the bird which is a shame I feel.

Great series. Was sure that fish wouldn't fit. - TF

I wasn't sure it would fit, either.
Any idea how often it has to eat, if it catches fish that big?

    Amazing series !

I wonder if it had dropped the fish a few times before it finally succeeded

BTW, how did it kill the fish?

He never droped the fish, not ounce. As to killing the fish, he did not, just ate it alive.

    Excellent series!

I love #2 in that it shows the width of the bass compared to that of the anhinga's neck.

They must have some super stomach acids to digest all those scales and large bones. Or do they upchuck those like owls?

Fascinating series! My favourite is number 4. The last ones very much remind me of watching snakes swallowing whole animals....

That makes sense considering it's often called the snakebird (wikipedia link for the bird.

I love catching Bass.. Im amazed that the bird can control a fish that for we fishermen (us fishermen?) is considered a good fighter.
