The weather forecast this morning sounded wonderful as I was trying to wake up. Mostly sunny skies with very light wind so I quickly got ready for work, grabbed my XTi and Sigma 500 and headed for the warbler spot that I had stumbled upon this past Tuesday. Upon arrival I observed a couple of warblers in the old spot beneath the pecan trees but the numbers were drastically reduced from what they were on my previous visit. Quietly, I sat and watched the area and took a few pictures of the warblers but before long they had all moved further back into the woods on their search for food.
Disappointment was certainly the prevailing emotion as I watched the empty area that had been so magic just two days before. As I waited I heard the familiar song of a Carolina Wren who gradually hopped up near where I was waiting. He was nice enough to pose for a couple of pictures before moving on with his morning activities.
Once I was finally convinced that the warblers were gone for the day I decided to explore the park a little further before it was time to go to work. To my delight I encountered a very cooperative Eastern Phoebe and then on my way back to my car I found a curious American Robin who hopped closer and closer to me as I took pictures. The bird eventually got so close that I could no longer focus!
Not quite what I expected but still a productive morning.
