    Albino Peacock

Ok.. I guess that can be a bit misleading, but this IS a peacock! I swear lol. A beautiful specimen too! I took this at a convention I was at, the ACA, in Sacramento this past weekend.

That's a looong way for any convention. What's it like at one of those? Any more shots of the event?

    Re: Albino Peacock

    Thanks Yarrow!

    Loupey,
Yes it was a long way lol.. but it wasn't the only reason I was there. It was just the excuse lol. Honestly, if my best friend didn't live in Sacramento.. I wouldn't have gone. I had a "Mini Mom Vacation" lol.

As for how the convention is and what they do.. Well.. The show is run by the American Cichlid Association. The Sacramento Aquarium Society was there as well as the North American Discus Association. (The ACA, The SAS and NADA)

The ACA invites speakers to come and give lectures on their expertise during the convention. I only saw Andrew Soh (I have his book) speak as I was there mostly for the discus.

If I had known when it was, I probably would have gone to see Jack, a breeder I know, give his lecture (the only FREE one!)

They have a competition for the different classes of fish. My friend, and the man I bought all my fish from, took home Grand Champion with a blue diamond. (Kenny and Louis with International Discus out of San Fransisco) and Kelvin, a breeder from Singapore took home second with HIS blue diamond.

There is also another room with "hobbiest class" but no discus were entered in this and there is still another room with fish people are just selling. I was going too far tho, so it was not worth it for me to buy fish. (Too bad too! I could have gotten some nice stock!)

They also have study groups during the convention for members of ACA, NADA and SAS. The ACA also planned tours to hatcheries from a few discus people in the area, wineries and other local tourist attractions for those coming out of state wanting to do some sight seeing.

This year though, there was a lot of controversy. Which I dont want to get into because its taking up all the threads at my discus forum and really its all so stupid and annoying lol.

I had a good time, saw some great fish, I got to meet Andrew Soh and Kelvin and Kenny and Louis and spend time with my girlfriend. (She is a discus person too.)

    Re: Albino Peacock

Thanks for the info, Amber. Sounds like you had a wonderful time out there.

I guess they'd look at me funny for walking in and asking if they had any feeder guppies for sale
