    70-300mm EF lens

would a 70-300mm IS camera be good for taking pictures of wildlife? cause thats around the price range im willing to spend, around 600 or something in that ball park, and is there any other lenses that would be good for taking pictures of wildlife and landscape as well? and what are yalls thoughts on a good canon macro lens and a good 50mm canon lens, thanks guys!

I'm pretty sure that's SARtech's main telephoto zoom, and she takes certainly gets excellent shots with it.

Yup. That's my lens. For starters I was thrilled. Now.... I am finding it not large enough. I have to do too much cropping. If I could afford the $1,600.00 100-400, I would be using it.
I am not a pro and can't afford anything more. That said, this is the lens for me!

    Re: 70-300mm EF lens

I have many Canon lenses and i have been happy with them...BUT I just bought Tamrons (My first tamron lens) new AF18-270 F/3.5-6.3DiII VC after reading all of the raving reviews. And I have to say..its an amazing lens for the price ($600-700) with a 50-100 rebate and outperforms and of my IS lenses. The new technology is amazing and I think we will see Canon Nikon ect doing the same thing soon. For a landscape lens with a super zoom..You will not be disappointed. I also now use it for my Macro shots.

    Re: 70-300mm EF lens

To answer the other part of your question, the 50mm f/1.8 lens is a very nice lens and a very affordable price. the 50mm f/1.4 is also a very nice lens with a much better build quality than the f/1.8 version. Canon also makes a 50mm f/2.5 macro lens.

For the macro lens, I use the Canon 100mm f/2.8 USM lens. I love it! It's very sharp, and not too expensive. There is now an IS version of this lens out that I have heard good things about. Depending on what you plan on photographing, you have a few different choices of focal length. I believe canon makes macro lenses at the focal length of 50mm, 100mm and 180mm in the EF mount. They also make a 60mm in the EF-S mount. The shorter the focal length, the closer you will need to be to your subject.

Extension tubes are an inexpensive way to turn your current lenses into macro lenses as well.

What Canon lenses do you compare the 18-270 to? I've been thinking about getting it as a walkaround lens, but I've heard some say image quality is lacking on the telephoto range.

Just to add to this, there are some really good prices on the 100mm 2.8 used on Keh. I think the price is coming down on the original since they released an IS version of the same lens.

It is my main primary lens since I bought It. Below I posted some recent pictures from Macro to Landscape and at full zoom (handheld to give you a idea of how it performs.
