1st In-Flight Hummer of the Year

    In bright, late morning sun.

Shot with 300mm with 2x TC. Vertical 4:5 crop from a horizontal shot. I guess I better start thinking about going out for more of these amazing critters.

Your work with that 300mm/2x setup just amazes me. Beautiful image.
Don't forget about the Gallery. Are your photos there??

    Nicely done.

I've not had much time for anything vaguely resembling birding this year.

Very nice. Is this the IS version of the lens?

Re: 1st In-Flight Hummer of the Year

Thanks, everyone, for taking the time to look and give such nice comments

I am pleased with this one as trying to be at the right place at the right time is 90% of the battle with these guys away from the feeders. Not much food in each blossom so getting one to stay still long enough is the other 10%

Payn - yes, the IS version of the 300mm f/4L. That lens is my "go to" lens and is on the camera (bare, tubed, or TC'ed) almost exclusively. I wouldn't even be considering the 500mm/600mm f/4L except that I'd like to shoot faster than f/11 (always stopped down 1 stop after the 2x loss) sometimes
