I am a expat Kiwi and have a Thai wife. (Second marriage) Two years ago, we decided to make a life in Thailand. We stayed with her Mum and Dad who don't speak a word of English for about seven or eight months. I learnt to sleep on the floor, with a mosquito net and a fan. Average temperatures 35 - 42 deg. C. We then had a new house built, with air-con. Surprised? Since being here, I have been teaching English at a university in Ayutthaya and at a local High School. So much for a peaceful life.
Our home is about 35 kms from the nearest city, Ayutthaya and I am the only European in the area. However I have been accepted into both the family and the community, to the extent, that now, I am invited to film weddings, Temple functions and the numerous House Parties. The area has many fascinating elderly people who still follow the trasitional way of life and are more than happy to talk about times past. I suppose that is where I first decided to try and make a documentary on the grass-root
