Website Galleries - FLASH or NO?

Wondering if I could get some opinions on what types of photo galleries people prefer to browse when they on visiting various websites. Flash based galleries or standard php/html galleries?
I'm trying to decide which gallery to keep on my website.

Great pictures are taken with the mind...the problem lies in getting the dang camera to take the same picture!

I vote for HTML. I shut off Flash in my Opera browser because the vast majority of Flash projects are annoying advertising. I ignore most sites that use Flash.

I shut off Flash and ActiveX and don't allow them on the system.

Flash pages are not friendly for the users and for the search engines.

    Never Flash. IMO

Apart from the bugs in the Windows implementation that don't seem to show up in Mac, it's a great big security hole that you have little control over. Updates for Windows seem to trail behind Mac and

Many people will by default block flash completely, and only allow trusted sites to run it.

Flash has the advantage that it's harder for people to steal your images. But also harder for any search engines to index your site for them to find your images.

Commercially all we use it for at work is adverts.
I suppose that says it all, really.

Html and flash are different technolgies for different environment.for animation based sites flash suits better and for content based sites html is better.so depending upon your need you can choose.

I have a flash-based site and an html based one. I didn't know so many people turned off flash. (I'm on the Mac platform). Interesting.

PHP, ColdFusion, or ASP based galleries are what I prefer.

I use many comps and different browsers. Sometimes the FLASH works and sometimes it doesn't.

PHP, ColdFusion, or ASP are compiled at the webserver so there is minimal guess work on the client side.

Re: Website Galleries - FLASH or NO?

It all depends on what kind of site you want to have. If you are going to have alot of content, such as text, then I would suggest HTML. But if you are going to have very little text, then I see no problems with a flash site.

However, Flash sites are notorious for NOT showing up in search engines, because Google can't read the content on your site. This is why alot of flash-based sites still have an option for "HTML or Flash". So, if you want to optimize the traffic you get, then you should go with an HTML site.

But, if you want to stay up-to-date with the w3c web compliance standards, then you should go with xHTML. Which is basically HTML, with stricter rules.

I think you should go with HTML, because that is what already works. But you should look into implementing a couple of javascripts onto your page. Low load-time, and you can achieve some cool effects with your photos, similar to flash.

    Good Luck.
