    Servers and Cache?
    I have an interesting question..
Maybe it isn't all that interesting to some.
I recently changed photographs on the home page of my website.
I use my work computer to check for things, see if things work and what not, on my page.
So this is what is happening..
At work, I still see the old photograph and info. The photograph was of a shadow of a bicycle.
The new photograph and information are the "Bike Rack" photograph I recently posted here.
So my question, do some servers cache and don't let in new information or what?
I look at my index and the Shadow photograph is not listed, because I deleted it, but it still shows up!
    What gives?
    Am I making sense?
    Thanks?
    Brian

I see the Bike Rack photo Brian. If anything is cached, it's probably on the computer you are on.

Check again and see if the photo is still the old one.

    Thanks Lara.
I have been checking this for two days, and the Shadow photograph still comes up.
I have cleard the cache and have even turned off the computer. Even as I write this it still comes up!
As long as the "Bike Rack" photograph is there, that is a good thing!!
I have submitted a packet for a scholarship to the Maine Photographic Workshops and want them to see my best stuff!
    Thanks!!

If you have already cleared temporary internet files and cookies, try one more thing. Type your url into the address bar. Don't use a favorites link.

    Nope, Nope and Nope!!!
I have done that and clicked on the link from my signature here..
Like I said, I have been doing this for days now.
It must be the server or network my computer is on.
    Stupid Computers Anyway! :D
    Thanks Lara... ;)

That is odd. It has to be the server or networking where you work. At least you know the server your web site is on did update your site. Here's a screen shot from my laptop. :)

There's a good chance that at work you're connecting to the internet through a proxy server. In many companies, the proxy will cache items, including text and images, to improve performance across the network. Yes, your computer can cache things too but in this case it sounds like the proxy you're going through is caching it.

    Re: Servers and Cache?
That is kind of what I thought Trevor, as I stated it has been like this for a few days now.
    No Worries!
    Thanks!

    Re: Servers and Cache?
Prior to this, anytime I have made a change to my site, I saw them at work the next day.
So it is just kind of strange that this gone on for so long.
The unusal thing is, if I look at the index of my site, the shadow pic is not there,
I deleted it when I changed the home page, but the Bike Rack one is listed there.

    Thnaks Lara and Trevor!

Have a chat with the network administrator at work. :) He/she may have changed settings.
Any other people's computers at work you can test?

I am not too worried about it now, and I am in a different location than the network people.
    No Worries!

    Great images, Brian...
Gives your home page impact (not to mention a powerful first impression).

When I first viewed it, I thought for a second I was looking at a stereoscopic image. It has the same appearance. Then I quickly realized they were different pics.

    Nice effect. Was that intentional?

    Re: Great images, Brian...
    Thanks Steve!
That means a lot coming from you.
Yes it was intentional, See This Post...
Basically, this is scanned from a proofsheet, the two negatives are together.
Like I also mentioned here, I recently submitted a scholarship packet to the Maine Photographic Workshops, so I felt like putting this one up rather than the shadow photograph that was there.
    Thanks Steve!

    Re: Servers and Cache?
The proxy server doesn't need your image to be on your server, as it has a local copy of the image, not just the html reference.

Brian, make sure that your files in temp internet directory are actually being removed when you select clear them, by physically going in there and checking, windows can be a real B when it wants to be sometimes. I have had this happen to me and I'm not running through a proxy at all here.

The other thing you can do, is ask the IT section to clear the proxy as well.

Hope it works out for you, it can be frustrating.

    Gotcha...
Yeah, I really need to poke my nose into Critique a little more often. I'm missing out on a lot of good stuff...

Just curious: what exactly does "submitted a scholarship packet to the Maine Photographic Workshops" mean? Sounds damn impressive... :)

    I'll say you should!

Yes you should stop by the Critique Forum more often. It's the best forum around!
    :D :p ;)
I am sure you know what the Maine Photographic Workshops are.. Right?
Well they offer scholarships to attend and I have applied for one they are offering this year.
It's been a big dream to attend.
    Thanks!
