Hi,
I am getting my site up and running but would like some comments good or bad so I know what to change and what to keep.

I am more of the "Keep It Simple" kind of guy when it comes to websites.
I know of others that want to create an experience with theirs.
So I think your site is good, because it is simple and about the photographs.
I am not one on showing all of the photographs as thumbnails, I would rather experience one photograph at a time.
Your navigation is fine, as is the layout.
The only negative things I would say are that there were quite a few typos throughout, some maybe cultural but I know there were several that were legitimate typos no matter how you speak English. Most of these typos are in the Iraq journal. The link to the Afghanistan journal does not work..
You might make sure that every page is titled, seeing "Untitled" across the top is rather unprofessional, in my humble opinion.
I must say you are rather fortunate to photograph "war", you have some great photographs.
