    Talking cgi's I'm lost

I'm in the process of trying to get an interactive part of my website to work. I have a community website and I have a bar section, local bands section I just need to find some local bands a singles section, etc. The problem is with the singles section. I purchased a template and have the links set to go from page to page and the buttons programmed but I need to either do an ssi or cgi page to have it search for the profiles, update profiles and such. I have a library of books at my desk now trying to learn perl but was wondering if anyone knows where I can get this done. I haven't done this much reading when I was in school. Thanks for any help
