Lightbulb Is this worth it? (used Nikon D70)

    asking $1075 OBO

    Nikon D70 body
    Nikkor 18-70 DX lens
    Nikkor 50mm @1.8 lens
    512 MB Compact Flash card
2 Battery Chargers, 1 Battery for the D70
Original packaging for the Nikon D70 Kit, manual, all accessories, etc.
3 YEAR EXTENDED BEST BUY REPLACEMENT WARRANTY

all items are in excellent condition.

I'm thinking about buying my first digital SLR and was wondering if the D70 was the way to go. Is this price worth it? Also, is there anything I should remember before buying used SLR equipment? Any suggestions would be welcome. Thanks!

I see OBO, and that tells me its a private seller. I doubt that a warranty is transferrable to you.
I'll guess that they could get about 6-700$ from a dealer, and you would be buying with out a warranty, so if it is a bad camera your stuck. Less than 900$ for a good camera from a private seller would be good, but beware! The D 70 is a great camera.

Buying a used DSLR makes me a little nervous - unless you know the history of it. There's a lot of stuff to go wrong in there, and repair charges are very expensive. I think Mark's right that the warranty is most likely non-transferrable either, so you'd be on your own with any problems.

Look at the accessories: The 50 f1.8 is under $100 even new. A generic 512mb card is probably $40, maybe less. Extra battery charger but only one battery? Hmm... something wierd there. And the warranty is probably worthless to you.

If it were me, I'd look for a new D70 still hanging around at a local shop. There is a rebate ($100 I think) if you buy the kit with the 18-70 DX lens. It will cost a little - but not much - more than what the seller is looking for and you'll have a new camera with warranty.

I wouldn't do it. The D70 is $749 right now at B&H Photo (a reputable dealer.) the flash card is about $50, the 50mm is $100 and I'm not sure about the 18-70, but I think it si $250. That's $1150 new. $75 isn't enought of savings to consider no warrantee (won't be honored, whatever they say) and used equipment.
