    Question Who is out there?

Hello, hello, hello from Toronto! Newbie here and I have no idea if this is where I should post this question but here goes ok. Sorry if this seems a little redundant as I"m sure you have all answered these questions before. Humour me ok! I am just curious as to who is out there in the forums. Seems weird talking to a bunch of strangers. Where do you all call home?, and how did you all get involved into the world of photography. I myself am a stay at home mom, so I got into photography when my kids were born. I started taking pics of them and the bug was there from that moment on. I like candid shots of people mostly. Young and old, but mostly children because of their innocence.Currently just using your basic SLR camera. Won't say what kind cause it's a piece of crap really, and I am in the market for an F100. Can't decide between Nikon or Canon. Hmmm. What do you all use out there? What do you all do when your not enjoying photography? Meaning your 9-5 jobs, lol. Well I think I have left enough questions for all of you to respond too. There seems to be a wealth of information in these forums so I am looking forward to seeing you all, and sharing in the forums. Cheers,

    Jewel.

    Re: Who is out there?

    Probably belongs in 'general discussions'

I live in western north carolina, currently a senior in high school, next year I hope to be going to UotT up in Toronto. I got started back in november, I always liked the idea of photography, then my girlfriend started up with it, and I had to choose a topic for my senior exit project, so I finally got the push I needed to get started. I bought a $15 old all metal manual slr from a thrift store, it broke after the first roll..oh well. Started using my dads old A-1, very nice. And my new N80 just arrived last monday and Ive been putting some rolls through it. My main focus is on city and street photography. I love finding something fairly common, and showing it in a completly new way.

Hi. Welcome to the forum. To answer your questions:

"Home" is a village called Bievres, just outside Paris (France). I'm actually English and I've travelled around a lot but Bievres is nice for the time being.

My father was heavily into photography, wrote books on it. I've always done it. When I got my first job (a long time ago) I had the choice between buying a car and a camera and a camera seemed more useful.

My "job" is computers. I'm currently managing the installation of computer systems in a new building near Rome (Italy) and the move of 400 users from two other buildings to the new facility.

Oh yes, I forgot the hardware stuff. I have lots of cameras, they're just tools, when I find one is good for a particular use then I keep it. I currently shoot Nikon, Konica, Leica, Hasselblad, Olympus. That's not important. It's the pictures that are important.

    Re: Who is out there?

Welcome! Yes, some of us are stranger than others... But you'll find a lot of nice people and great help here.

Home for me is near Chicago, and most of my life story is on my moderator page (well, the photography part, the other part is boring!). I have a day job working with architectural lighting. Like a few others here, I also do the occasional photography job.

My shoulders remind me how much stuff I carried to yesterday's wedding... Most shots actually taken with the F100 which is a great camera. Had one for a little over three years now and it's been thru more than it probably should (all day at near zero F temperatures, rain, week-long sea kayaking trips as well as weddings) and still going strong.
