    What is EXIF ?

I guess I am a fossil like my equipment, see below:blush2:. I am assuming that EXIF is something that is imbeded in a "digital" photo and tells all the camera setting info on that exposure, since I have seen several members say "after looking at the EXIF, I....". If this is correct, is it available on all digital photos, and can someone give me a brief, tutorial? BTW I CAN e-mail and surf the internet, but not much else

    Thanks,

yup, that's right. Exif is also called metadata, and contains information about the exposure, and all the other settings that were used in the image.

    Re: What is EXIF ?

Thanks guys, I do not understand how it works, but know that it does and some of what it can do. It would appear to eliminate the need to write down a lot of the information I try to put in a note book, and could make a copyright claim easier to prove. I like the idea, maybe digital is not all bad. HAHAHAHA

    Re: What is EXIF ?

Any digital photo loaded onto your computer contains the exif data.
You can also get the exif on some photos loaded onto the internet but I think only if loaded directly from a computer but not if from flickr or something

it typically doesn't matter where the image is hosted, but what process is used to initially save the image. Save for Web in Photoshop can strip all EXIF info, which some photographers prefer.
