I just got my 5D about two weeks ago, and everything is peachy, except...
Went to the beach this weekend to try a couple of things and a number of shots came out with the corners blacked out. But it appears that the only shots that had this problem were the ones taken at the low end 24mm focal length. Looks like you're looking through a tube.

What did I do wrong?
Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Sounds like you were using your lens hood and it blacked out the wide angle part. This is fairly common when you use the lens hood on wide angle lens. You did nothing wrong. What I usually do when I am doing wide angle work is set up my tripod and just shade things with my hat or hand and snap the photo. Its cumbersome, but works. If you have an extra hood or have the money to pick one up, you can cut it down a little with some patience and a very charp knife. I think there is also a website where you can print off paper hoods for free to fit almost every lens, then you trim it to fit your needs.

This sounds like classic filter problems. First, never use two filters together (in fact lose the Tiffen UV, at least not on an "L" lens!). If this was the case, use only the polarizer and try again.

If that doesn't fix the problem, the polarizer might be too thick, it will sometimes block the corners. Do you have the same problem with both filters off? If the polarizer is the problem, you can get a thin one that won't chop your corners off.

I was wondering about both of those possibilities. Multiple filters and the lens hood.
I don't think it's the lens hood because I've used it before, I believe. But I will have to check out the other possibilities with the multiple filters, and with a hood. Thanks.

Not the lens hood. It's the combo filter syndrome. Use 1, either one, and there's no problem. The two together create the shadowed corners.
