    This is a tough one.......

    Well hello,

I'm new here, I just bought a Petax *ist DL today and already I have a question. It seems that the built in flash doesn't work. When I put it on manual and pop the flash up the camera freezes, the only solution is to change the setting so the shutter will still go off while the flash is charging up. I waited several minutes and the flash doesn't do anything. I'm really puzzled, is the flash toast or what?

Call Pentax customer service, sounds like a faulty camera. It appears the firmware or processor are messed up.

Sounds like something's wrong - I'd also recommend sending it in. If you bought it at a local camera store, see if they can figure it out. It may just be set up wrong, but I'm guessing not...

I saw that you posted this in the DSLR forum too. We'd appreciate if you'd not duplicate post but there is a good reply on that thread.

Sorry for the two posts, I posted in the other area first and then discovered the Help area here after doing that. They are going to let me keep the camera until they get some more in (mine was the last one) and then they will exchange it for a new one that hopefully works. Other then the problem with the flash I think that the camera takes very nice photo's, I will post some as soon as I figure all the settings out and get it working good. Right now I'm just taking photo's on Auto setting and using manual focus.
