Thinking of new website name to pick

I have been thinking of a new website name to replace my current one and have come up with some options and looking for some input from the forum.

    capturingthelight.com

    capturedthruthelens.com

    lasting-photos.com

    producingimages.com

    enlightenimages.com

    memoriesinlight.biz

    writinginlight.com

    writingsinlight.com

    writingwithlight.biz

    flashingphotos.biz

    photosinmemories.com

    memoriesoflight.com

    stillimagestudios.com

Just wondering what people think, no particular order.

    Paul which one

So Paul, which one, saying Biz is cheaper doesn't help that much. There are suttle differneces with the names is you are refering to writinginlight.com compared to the other two.

    Lightbulb Always a challenge.....

Any of these would work. It's always a challenge. Some ideas:
you might think of including your name - easier for people to remember.
    keep it simple.
Some examples - not well thought out, nothing great - just samples.

    PhotosbyPeter
    ImagesbyPeter
    LightProductions
    ProductionsinLight
    FlashphotosbyPeter (vs flashing)
    LightExpressions (byPeter)
    ExpressionsinLight
    LifePhotos
    LifeExpressions

    Have a great day!

I'll keep them in mind Liz. It's night time here at present, so I will have a good sleep soon.

    Hmmmmm....

Those are all good ones Pete. I like "writingsinlight", while the "caputuredinlight" has some potential too.
But, what is the idea you are trying to convey with this new site?

    Pete,

Domain names are a very personal thing for me, and I don't feel qualified to suggest one for you.

HOWEVER, ditch flashingphotos.biz as soon as possible. That just sends me the wrong message.

    I agree...

...about this being a very personal thing.

Still, I've been told I am not bad with words, and what I can tell, Peter, is that writingsinlight not only sounds a bit awkward, but is also easily misspelled ("i"s and "n"s and "g"s all over the place!), and trust me, will be read "writing sin light" by at least some viewers.

If it were me, I'd cross that one off the list...

I agree Domain Names are very personable hence why I tried comming up with different variations. Unfortunately as you both know, most straight forward names are gone and trying to keep within the theme of "Photography being like writing with light" which we all know it is. Hence my list. I would like to try and get something that reflects a bit like how Steve and Seb use their webnames within their design as well. I really like Seb's website design (Steve your's is excellent too) and how it just presents itself. Simple easy to associate and easy to remember.

So the writingsinlight and flashingphotos are GGGGGGGGGGGOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONNNNNNNNNNNNEEEEEEEEEEEE EEEE (this is a footy show saying here. I have also deleted stillimagestudios.com as that implies the wrong type of photography business as well, I'm not a Studio am I, I am an individual like most people here hoping to improve my photography to a point where I might start making an income which has been my whole point for past couple of years, not there yet but getting close I think.

My daughter likes the capturingthelight.com but a little long, but so are most of the names anyway. I have about 2 weeks to decide as my schuckphotographics.com name is up for renewal and that is what I want to replace, it isn't, in a word "Commercial" enough I think, too person specific for a domain/business name.

Again thanks for replies and PM me if you have any suggestions I would appreciate it.

Well made up my mind after discussion with the children and wife and you can see the decision in my signature. Still undecided on the old name whether to let it expire, a bit pointless I suppose considering it costs money to have and not use it.

You will notice the site isn't working as yet as it hasn't propogated around the Name Servers.

    I like using
    Photographicempressions.com
    photographicempressionsbypeter.com

    or slightly different
    photographicexspressions.com
    photographicexspressionsbypeter.com

or a little different from one of Liz's suggestions
    photographicmemories.com

I like the idea of having the word photo in the name or something that would make your web page come up when doing a search. I just don't think most people including somebody into photography would put anything into a search that would make something like writinginlight come up. And after all isn't your site being easy to find and be memorable the main idea?

Thanks for the suggestions Grandpaw but I went with memoriesinphotos.com most photo names are gone already, it is really hard to come up with something a little catchy and rememberable.

To have you site listed in the searches it doesn't necessarily get a hit by your name, it has to do with what you put in the meta-tags on the beginning of the page, so you can put what every words you want and you will get shown up in lots of very unusual places at times.
