    t4 light leak

I recently bought a Yashica T4 on ebay. I took one roll and noticed a light square on the left side of a lot of my photos.

    example :

The camera looked like it was in perfect condition when I got it but then I noticed that the lower latch of the battery door is missing, could this be where the light square squeaks in?

Some photos that were shot in the shade don't seem to have the square.

    Thanks. - Nick

It could be a hole in the focal panel shutter or lens flare? A leak in the light seal would not give you a square on the image.

It could be a reflection from the missing hinge. Try a piece of black tape on the hinge area and see if that fixes it.

Incidentally, I had two Yashica T4 Supers, back in the day. I held onto one even into the digital era because I loved it so much. I still have yet to use a pocket digital that comes close to that camera. The only reason I don't have it anymore is it got stolen out of my truck. Those are awesome cameras. Shot many, many rolls of Velvia and Provia in mine and took one of my most memorable photos ever with the first one. That camera is a classic - a keeper for sure.
