    Skin tone...

From my first attempt last week at shooting an event, I got some with strange skin tones. Green maybe??? Is this common? Any ways to prevent/fix? - TF

A custom white balance would avoid this (or batch processing in something like Photoshop), but it wouldn't work when you're shooting outside. Custom WB only works when the lighting is consistent like in a studio or maybe in a dark reception hall when 95% of the light is provided by the camera's flash. Outside, some shots will have a person's face in sun and some in shade - totally different WB needed for those situations. A different color mode in your camera (like not using something like Vivid or Dynamic color) might help this, but would affect other things like the bike and jersey colors.

Nice shot though - cyclocross looks just crazy enough that I'd like to try it someday. I say that from the comfort of my livingroom couch, however...

Thanks. I have (recent purchase and started taking a class) PS Elements 6 and applied the 'Skin tone eye dropper' which seemed to help, but it doesn't show me what it did and help me understand what is wrong. If I try my own fixes with color hue, etc., it never seems right.

Again, thanks. Seems like I have nothing but questions and have nothing to contribute - maybe someday. I appreciate the time the knowledgable spend helping others.

Even question are a contribution. I've learned much by reading responses to others questions that I never thought to ask.
As for the skin tone, I never would have noticed there was anything wrong.
When you use that skin tone dropper, you can also adjust after using it for blush, tan, and something else that I forget.

If it's a highlight/shadow issue, then in Lightroom I'd use the split toning option.
You can set different adjustments for shadows and highlights, useful for sunlit landscapes where the shadows appear blue from skylight and the sunlit areas more yellow.
