    Skateboarding?

So, I have a bunch of friends that skate, and though I do, but am not so great at it, I would rather take pictures of them. Do you all have any tips to making crisp and epic photos at high speeds, other than shutterspeed? obviously I want to get a better flash, down the road, but I'm a "not so noob" as a whole to photography, looking for a little help.

Hey Two--you might want to post this in the sports photography section, but what I would ask first is what equipment you have?

    Re: Skateboarding?

Thanks. I'm not entirely a noob, I understand depth of field, and the whole relationship between shutter speed, ISO (film speed) and Aperture, I do take a bunch of photos, and most of them are starting to be right in camera, which makes me proud. I don't think I'm a great photographer by any means, just a hobbyist.

I read 'Understanding Exposure' by Bryan Peterson, and started reading 'Learning to See Creatively', but haven't had the time since the semester started up.

The best things you can do is get a really wide angle lens and a good flash. I've done some skating shoots and have always wanted to shoot wider than I had available.

With the D80 you'll want to manually pre-focus and shoot. The D80 doesn't have focus tracking so if the skater is coming towards (or away from) you a fast rate -- you'll have to refocus as fast as you can tap your finger on the shutter button.

You can also slow down the shutter speed and shoot with the rear sync flash and go for some motion blur action shots (at night). Play around.

Watch Fuel TV and see what they are doing with video and apply it to what you want to do.

Other than those few things, just get out and shoot a lot!
