    Angry Sigma Ng?

I have two Sigma lens, 70-210 af, 1st series. 18-35 wideaf.
After upgrading to ELAN 7 the 70-210 will not function.
Prior to the ELAN 7, the 18-35 stopped itself down to about f/8, f/11, and stayed there.
    Used for about 10 shots.
Never, ever any trouble w/ Canon, Vivitar, Tokina.
Is this about average for Sigma? one wonders why they are still in business.
I learned after buying the Elan 7 that Sigmas were not compatible with newer cameras.
Now checking the feasibility of returning them via ICBM.
First post here, notice site attempts to install "DOUBLE CLICK" a known bad thing.

    Controller Chips

    Ken-
Check with Sigma about getting new Elan 7- compatible chips for your lenses. When new cameras come out they usually aren't compatible with older, third-party lenses. Canon has no reason to ensure such compatility. That's one reason to stick with manufacturer-made lenses and accessories. But Sigma should have new chips available for lenses, given that they're reasonably current.

Double Click is an online advertising agency. I don't believe that the cookies or anything else they try to install are dangerous. My anti-spyware software doesn't have a problem with them. And the reality is that it's nearly impossible to use the Internet now without online advertisers dumping cookies and other stuff on your machine. The trick is keeping the really dangerous stuff out of your machine. I understand how you feel, though. I hope that reassures you some.

Sigma is a large company and still very much in business! Sigma lenses, for whatever reasons, occasionally need "rechipping." Sigma has been very good about doing this quickly and the service is free. I've never heard of other 3rd party lenses needing rechipping (Tamron, Tokina) but then, I don't pay all that much attention to it as long as my own lenses are working!

Annoying but not a major issue. Give Sigma a call and they'll tell you where to send the lenses.

I don't think a new chip would help the 18-35, jammed mechanically.
Forgot to mention thhat I also had a 28-70 Sigma. Lost AF ability at the lower end of range, yin-yang from stop to stop.
So, I have an intense dislike for their products.
Double click is spyware/tracker, Spybot doesn/t like it.Neither do I.

Sorry to hear about your problems. I've got two Sigma lenses, the 105mm f2.8 macro and the 12-24 f4.5-5.6 - love them both.

I wouldn't characterize DoubleClick as bad, just a standard marketing tracker. If you don't want to turn off cookies you can choose to opt out of the cookie tracking here.

I use AdAware and SpyBot S&D on a regular basis to clean things out.
That way I can leave cookies on and yet not have the tracking slow my machine down to a crawl.
Needs to be run weekly, miss a week and the machine goes terribly slow.

    Re: Sigma Ng?

I've had mixed luck w/ Sigma, too (on my Canon 10D ) . I've got a 12-24mm swa that I like so far, and a 28-105mm f.2.8 that I liked until the other week when I noticed the aperture won't go below 4.0 at 28mm. Unfortunately the Canon stuff is so expensive that--even used--I can't afford most of their lenses.

I think I'm going to try a Tokina or Tamron next (unless I win the lotto and can afford Canon). Does anyone recommend one over the other?

    Thanks,
    Steve
