    Shadow Problem in Photos...

    Hello friends!

I have a Sony Cybershot DSC-P200. I have a small problem. Although the camera takes superb pictures, each and every snap taken inside the house has a shadow behind the subject. I have tried clicking photos from all angles, but the shadow problem still persists. Is this because of some camera fault or because of my photography fault. Please refer the photograph below and help.

    Thank you.

That shadow is caused by the flash. To get rid of it, either shoot with the flash OFF or diffuse it in some way. I would suggest trying a bit of typing paper or napkin in front of the flash to start.

Other options: Increase the brightness in the room, or reduce the shutter speed when using flash. The former will make it possible to shoot indoors without the flash, and the latter will equalize the ambient light with the reflected light, although at some loss of sharpness. Another option is an off-board slave flash, but that is not where I would begin.

    Hope this helps!

    Yeah, its the flash.

Diffuse it or don't use it and set the shutter speed low.

Yes, it's the flash. I don't know that camera but you might not have many (or even any) options for manual control which might help the situation.

What you can do is to move your subject farther away from the backgrond - that will make less of a shadow than, for example, the first shot.

It's always good to have the subjects away from the bg. Even when using window light.

It looks similar to my point and shoot

I can turn the flash off. I can even set my ISO to 400, (you might even have an ISO 200 option), which helps in low light.
But be careful when not using the flash because it can slow the shutter quite a bit. So everyone has to hold very still, including you until the camera has finished.

It can make the image a little noisy, when using higher ISO's, but that can be easily sorted out using a noiseware programme.

I think the key is still to have some good lighting though.
Here is a good example of two of my daughters, taken with my Sony DSC-P10, using window light only.
Notice, also, that my daughter in the stripes is not shading the light from my daughter in grey.

I loved this shot so much, I made a digital background for it and had it printed in a 10x8
