Question Saving photos for the photo gallery

I'm having trouble with my online photo gallery in Photographyreview. Perhaps someone here can help.

    This is my problem:

I save an image as a jpg and it looks nice and sharp when I preview it in internet explorer.

I then upload it to this site for my gallery and it looks fuzzy. This has something to do with the size it becomes when displayed in the gallery. i.e. when it is forced to fit into the constraints preordained by this site. I'm pretty sure there is a way around this maybe something to do with how the photo should be originally saved in photoshop. Unfortunately, I just can't figure it out.

I am using photoshop 7's image ready to save my photos. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Saving photos for the photo gallery

Hi - I don't use the gallery so I don't know if anything is different between it and the forums here, but try attaching one of your images to a reply here. At least here in the forums it won't change size or anything - you'll get an error message if it's too large.

I usually keep them 600x400 or 600x450 (depending on camera) and that seems to be a good size. I save as a jpeg with the quality level set at 8, but I don't use "save to web" or anything like that. Have you posted photos on any other websites and had good luck?

Re: Saving photos for the photo gallery

I usually use PS CS2 to do my editing, but before I got CS2 I used PS7. After editing my files, I have an action that will size the image to fit in a 600x600 image area (File -> Automate -> Fit image 600x600). Then I choose the "Save For Web" and savign it as a Jpg @ quality 80.

If you by chance are using AOL, I found that sometimes AOL compresses graphics, which can make for them to look fuzzy & not sharp.

Re: Saving photos for the photo gallery

Thanks for your help. Unfortunately saving them as 600x600 doesn't seem to be helping. They look ok when you click on the thumb nails and then click to enlarge once again. But as thumb nails some of them look awful and as medium size images they do too.

I have had several websites before but have never posted my images on a site like this which automatically displays (and compresses) my images.
