Is what's damaged something you know how to fix? I have never attempted to take apart any of my lenses, just not something I would feel comfortable doing, unless I knew that I never wanted to use that lens again. I would send it into Canon and let there techs fix it.

I'd put it back together and send it to Ft Wayne In (I'll get address & number later today) they fix scratched glass...probably cheaper than any other fix. You should never open a lens up though! You may never get it together.

I see you're in England, and there should be a service center there. I'd check into the cost of a repair by them as well. Also find out what a new (or nice used) lens will cost and just consider replacing it. Then you could sell the one you've got, possibly for more than you think (based on my own personal experience!).

LOL, ooopps, did realize he was in England!

Anyway, check around and see if you can find a repair shop that not only fixes lenses but also repairs glass. You'd be amazed at what they can do to repair the glass at a nominal fee. That particular lens it shouldn't cost much. The place in Ft WAyne fixed a badly chipped lens (hundreds of small chips) really cheap.
