    You're on to something!!!

Articus, I think you are on to something. Maybe we should just get rid of all the threads that have anything to do with needing help.

I can answer approximately 100% of the help questions by telling the poster to read the manual, go to the manufacturers web page, buy a book (what a concept, have a reference on hand), and on, and on. While never answering their questions.

I'm appalled by some of the "what equipment" questions' responces. How many people have used enough equipment besides what they own to actually make a recomendation? Yet they do. Even more funny is when they convince someone they "need" something? I see this all the time when someone asks what lens. You know, the, "you need an 85mm over a 135mm...." How the hell do they know what this person needs? My answer could be you need to figure it out on your own. Instead, I choose not to answer and laugh at the responses.

What about all the so called "pros" that ask remedial questions? If they're pro's maybe I should get a consulting fee?

In my case all I wanted was a direct link to a release of copyright specifically related to photography. I was hoping some one had a legal one posted that I could go directly to. This is all I asked. I don't need someone to just say surf the web and you're bound to find one after you dig through enough garbage.

    Have a good day, Mike

Look, I did a google search for "release of copyright form" and found loads of them. What more do you want?

First off, I have this book but don't think that there is anything in it about what you're looking for (not with me at the moment). I'll try to check later tonight. If not, there are several other good legal-type books for photographers, especially the ASMP guide.

You're right, it is very difficult to know what someone else needs. All we can do is make educated guesses and suggestions, but it's up to that person to decide if that piece of equipment will actually do what they want it to. This is why it's important for the poster to be as specific as possible when asking a question. I can tell you what works for me and why I use it, but that's all I can do. I think it's a good policy to only recommend equipment if you have experience using it. Or, if you're recommending something based on what you've read state that this is the case.

I'm a part-timer. I do a little professional work, probably just enough to see what it's like. I have some friends that are full time pros and they ask me questions about things from time to time. Not what lens they should get or what kind of film to use in a situation, but about digital stuff. I don't claim to be an expert, but there's so much to keep up on. Full time pros aren't on too many boards - they're busy shooting, marketing, billing, printing, etc. They know different things than a lot of people here, that's all.
