raw for 30d with adobe cs

    Camera: canon 30d
    editing with: adobe cs

A member of an msn community is trying to find how to open raw files with photoshop cs.
From what I see on the adobe site, cs will not support the 3.5 plugin.
Is there another program that will open 30d raw files for her or will she have to upgrade to cs2 ?

    thankyou for your help.

Re: raw for 30d with adobe cs

    This link may help:http://avondale.typepad.com/rawforma...cial_phot.html

This is a link to an unofficial modification of the Adobe Camera Raw (ACR) plug-ins. It tweaks the script for the 20D to read and open 30D Raw Files.

Support for the 20D started in ACR version 2.4, which incidentally is the last version of the plug-in supported by Photoshop CS.

The downside is that this tweak appears to have been written for CS2, so I'm not sure if it will be compatable with CS. Heck, I'm not sure it will work at all. Might be worth a try though.

My other thought on the subject is that version 2.4 was the first version to support the DNG (digital negative) file format. If your friend could find a utility that converts 30D raw files into DNG format, she should be able to open them in CS.

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks Joe!
I'll try to convince her to do an upgrade but she may want to try this too.

There are other programs that can open RAW files, I use Thumbs Plus, with the new digital camera plug in. It is shareware with a thrity day trail. The nice thing is its a image viewer and photo catalog program.

But thumbs plus isn't an editor.
The way for editing would be to convert it to TIFF in Thumbs+ and then edit the TIFF in adobe CS.
I got PS CS2 and working with Lightroom it's great.
There was an offer from Canon about a year ago for 1/2 price PS CS2 valid in the USA only.
Check to see if there was a cheap offer in the 30D box, my 20D shipped with elements and that could be upgraded very cheaply with the offer !
