    a question about my lens,

    I have a tokina 80-400f4.5-5.6 at-xd lens for my camera(nikon d60) and when I put the lens on and try to shoot,if the lens aperature ring is not locked at the minum aperature it tells me to lock it at the minimum before it lets me shoot,can anyone please tell me why this is?

    It is the same with all dslr, at least Nikon. You set the aperture with the camera and the lens needs to be at smallest aperture or you'll get an error signal. I think its FEE8 on my d80. Why? I don't know...something to do with the electronics that's over my head.
    Just be assured you can set the aperture at whatever you want and the lens allows.

    It's very simple, If the aperture is not set at the smallest the camera can't adjust the aperture past the F stop due to the mechanical linkage.
