    Print enlargements?

Where is the best place to get enlargements made? I have tried several places and it is hit or miss with the quality.

    Re: Print enlargements?

the only problem with mpix is their 4.95 flat shipping rate. that can be quite annoying when doing small orders.

here's a list I found of online print services, and how much their prints cost. some of these have been disbanded though.
    http://www.bestwebbuys.com/photo_pri...omparison.html

until recently I used adoramapix.com to do my printing, but the flat shipping rate was annoying me. when i ordered from another lab, I realized adoramapix didn't actually do a very good job with the prints. they were pretty flat as far as color, and not nearly as sharp as the others I got.

So recently I switched over to clarkcolor.com. their paper isn't quite as thick and nice as adoramapix, but their prices for 4x6s are 11 cents. their prices for 5x7's are 80 cents, and 8x10s are $3. A little expensive, but for the great color and tack sharpness, I think they're worth it. Here's a litte write-up I did on the four labs I used. just a little comparison test I hope that helps. by the way, since then is when I have discovered how poor quality adorama actually has. don't use them.

I hope in the future to test out other ones, winkflash and xpphoto mainly, since they seem to have the best all-around prices. but I just don't have the cash to spend right now. But if someone wants to paypal me a couple bux...I could do it that much sooner! :-D

    Cool Re: Print enlargements?

Thanks, on some my last prints, I tried to border the pictures and put my name at the bottom of the picture. Like some I see posted. But the dept store developer cut to much of it off. Any secert that I don't know that I could use to get a nice border?

    Re: Print enlargements?

hmm...dunno. it really depends on the developer. I have found that when printing at walmart, they do the same thing. they just cut off part of my border. plus, the white in the border really screws with their color management machines, and it always turns out funky. i have concluded that the walmart photo lab has no clue what they are doing. anyways... with mpix you may be able to select a border. i know with adoramapix you can. with winkflash, the place I just ordered from tonight, and should be getting the prints in a couple days, they have that as an option. It really all depends what lab you use. I added a border to a few of my prints that I had done recently for a customer from clarkcolor, and they should be here tomorrow, so I'll let you know how that worked out.

I'm not sure if any do. But do yourself a favor and stop using paypal.

I also like MPIX. I use snapfish for my pictures and use MPIX for my photographs, if you know what I mean. I had a problem with (MPIX) color quality; emailed them and got a replacement within 2 days of what I actually wanted in the first place.
I know that they are a little pricier because of shipping, but that's the price for the true quality?
Who does anyone use for portrait? Who does anyone use for wedding processing?
Just curious since it appears to be a next step in my evolution.

    Re: Print enlargements?

Mpix is a division of Miller's Labs who have been doing work for a lot of wedding and portrait pros around the country for years. I've done proofs with Mpix, and wouldn't hesitate to use them for prints I've sold either. Miller's Labs is more of a high volume place and I think you'll have to do a certain amount of business to have an account with them (or so I've been told) which is why they started Mpix.
