    Please help select telephoto

    Greetings,
I have a friend that just purchased a "Canon D6" that's what he said.
I found D60 listed so that is probably the correct model.

He wants a zoom telephoto and I don't have a clue as to what to suggest.
Everything I've found on the net is out of my price range.

Thanks everyone that has a suggestion.

He wants to shoot wildlife and his grandson playing ball, etc.

    Thank you for you reply.

Sharing what the budget for the lens is with everyone else would be very helpful to anyone trying to help you out, Jeff

    Don't settle for anything less.

Seriosuly, we need to know more. A lot more. Racing? Birds? Kids' football? Also, Canon makes a 60D, not a D60. Nikon made a D60.

The Canon D60 has been out of production for years. He probably means the 600D (consumer) or the 60D (low-end-pro).

The only choice for a do-everything lens is the 18-200 from Canon. It's a good compromise between portability, image quality and long zoom range. I have the Nikon equivalent and I use it a lot.

Not buying any more gear this year. I hope

    Thank you, Jeff and Charles,

I do not know what his budget is for this item.

He stated that he called Canon and they told him to go to a dealer and start looking.

I should have been more specific. With my tight budget, I would be looking for an "off brand" to save a few bucks.
(I know to play on the old phrase " you don't get what you pay for")

Thanks again for your replies. Let's just let him take care of it.

    Happy shuttering. :blush2:

As long as you stay with a known lens maker you should not have a major problem.
