Pictures coming out blurry

Hi!

I have a Canon Sure Shot 76 35 mm camera and it always took pretty good pictures. A few months back I noticed that quite a few of the pics would come out blurry. I chalked it up to using cheap/old film. So a few weeks back I bought kodak 400 speed film. I just got 5 rolls developed and just about all the pictures are blurry. Anything taken close up seems ok, but distance shots are blured. I tried cleaning all the lens inside and outside of the camera, even where I load the film. So it has to be something wrong with the camera. Any ideas??

Any suggestions on a good 35 mm and a digital camera would be greatly appreciated. I am looking to buy both or should I just ditch the 35 mm all together and just get a good digi? I take lots of pics of my kids.

can we see some examples? It would really help to diagnose the problem. I'm not sure whether it's a problem with motion, or focus, or whether, like you said, it's the camera itself. Once we see some examples, we can diagnose and then work from there.

Here are a couple of pics. And its not every single pic, that comes out blurry. I noticed it was shots that were taken from a distance or using the zoom. Most close up shots were ok. I was using 400 speed flim and making sure there was no movement when taking the pictures.

Here is a so-so clear one


This picture was taken the same distance as the next pic.


Last 2 Taken from a distance- never had this problem before.




You can really tell the bluriness in the faces, I edited the pics to be smaller.But if need be I can post it full size.

Looks like my 1D did when the AF went out. Can manual focus with it? Try that, if they are OK then it's the AF circut. If they aren't it's something else, but either way it looks like a possible trip to he repair center.

FYI, it cost $285 including shipping to repair my 1D AF problem.

yeah, it does look like an autofocus problem. Although what I did notice is that these pictures are in the dark. AF has a hard time focusing in the dark. Is this happening to your daytime pictures too?

Yes, it's happening to the daytime pics as well.-even bright sunlight- I think it's just time to chunk the camera and get a new one. I decided I am going all digital. I did buy a super cheapo 35 mm yesterday, a Polaroid 232SL motorized. 10 bucks at wally world! So I am taking some test shots to see how it pans out until I can get a decent digi I like. yeah, if its happening all the time it is attributed to an AF that has come to the end of its road. Sounds like a good idea to go digital! Have fun with future purchases!

First off, have you tried changing the battery? It could be something that simple.

At first, I figured that there's a good chance that the bluriness might have been from shaking the camera a little (hard to avoid sometimes without a tripod). But if this was the case, then the flash shots should be sharp, and they're not either.

I'd try the new battery first - if that doesn't do it, it's probably time for a new camera.

if the battery were so low that AF isn't working, then the flash probably wouldn't work either. The flash takes (and puts out) a lot of power.

True, but low batteries have caused some very strange problems in my experience. I had a flash with low batteries that I was just about to change that would still fire, but the zoom head in the flash kept moving back and forth a little bit. Very odd and haven't seen that since - but new batteries solved that problem. It's an easy enough thing to try, that's all.

Strange, that's how I knew my 580EX batteries were going low.

That's exactly what my Nikon SB28 was doing once about two years ago. Other than reading about one other person on another board with the same flash and same situation, I'd never heard of that. I figured the flash was done for, but thought I'd try the batteries anyway. That's the moral of the story...
