    picture transfer problem

I'm using a HP Photosmart M407 and I took a bunch of pictures + 2 short videos yesterday. Right now i'm trying to transfer the files on my computer (with the usual hp software that i've always used) and everything works fine until it comes to the first video. Then it gives an error messages and stops transfering. Did anyone ever get a similar problem? is there another way to transfer the files (i've tried dirrectly with windows XP but it won't work either.)

    thx

Have you tried a card reader? Exactly what does the error message say?

"An error occured while saving images. Check your image capture device connection and try again". And I haven't tried a card reader because I don't have one

A card read can be purchase vary cheaply, but does one of your friends have a card reader? If they can transfer the photos from the card to a flash drive (USB storage device)?

I'll try to see if I can find someone with a card reader. How do you transfer pictures only? my program didn't offer that option

When windows XP picture transfer comes up you can check which pictures to transfer. It could be an issue with your USB port. Is it an older one?

When I got my new camcorder a couple of years ago I wound up changing USB ports to get my computer to see the camcorder. I would try it on a newer computer and see if that helps. If it's your USB port a card reader will not help.

The question is: Which Operating system are you using? Window or Mac OS, if it's Windows which version. The Operating system will have more to do with find a solution to your problem than the age of your computer. (I do have a copy of Windows XP sp2 running on a Pentium Pro 200, and it is on the slow side)

The thing is that I've had that camera for quite a while now and never had any problems transfering on my computer.

As I said in my first post, I've tried to transfer them with windows XP, which is the OS i'm using. (and i'm not using a pentium 2 :P)

I would try another computer and maybe a card reader then.

    Re: picture transfer problem

Have you recently added or upgraded any software on the system since you last uploaded. XP's SP2 caused all manner of problems.

If yes then try and re-install the HP software as they sometimes rely on having a certain file in the windows directory which could have been overwritten or deleted. This would re-instate the file and it might work again.

If you haven't then try another USB cable and a different port. I assume you are using the same port as usual. Some apps insist on using the same port.

Sounds to me like the video file is corrupt. Get your pics and reformat the card. If you are lucky it won't be the card itslef that is bad.

To get to the Windows Image Download utility just right click the removable drive icon in the My Computer drive list and then click "Auto Play". That will bring the window up that lets you choose the utility you want.

Hey, hows that for not using a Windows machine in over a month...:thumbsup::thumbsup:
