old gossen luna pro sbc not working

I just dragged out my old (about 35 years old) Gossen Luna Pro SBC light meter, and put in a new battery, which checks out fine with the battery check on the Luna Pro. However, when I press the button to take a reading, the needle just sits on the right side and turning the dial to get the needle to zero doesn't work--it just sits in the same place. I'm assuming the meter is broken. I noticed this meter got good reviews at this site and others had had theirs as long as I've had mine, yet theirs still work. Does anyone know a) what I might do to solve the problem myself, or b) a good place to send it to be repaired? Thanks!

Hi and welcome - if the meter sees the battery as working properly, then you'll probably need to send it in for repair. I'm not familiar with that meter but maybe someone here is and will have another idea. You might try contacting KEH for a repair price. I don't see a USA address for Gossen, otherwise I'd tell you to contact them as well.

Are you sure you don't have the polarity of the battery reversed?

I checked and the polarity is correct, though I'm not even sure if you can reverse polarity on a 9-volt battery without considerable difficulty. Thanks for the suggestion, though. I'm eager to try what I can in lieu of a repair bill.
