    not charging

    Hi.
After touring Bonnie Scotland last summer without a camera? my wife decided to buy me one at xmas a Sanyo VPC-E1000.Took it out of box Xmas day and snapped all day.Took it out of box yesterday and thought I'd better charge it up,but alas in manual it says green led light comes on and when fully charged goes out,but mine is the red light which in the manual says an error has occured.it has a lithium-ion [3.7volt] battery, anyone any ideas,is it the battery or maybe the camera?thanks for any help

    Re: not charging

Sounds like the battery is shot and will not hold a charge. That would be the first thing I tried, even if you feel the battery is new I have seen "new" ones go bad. Second thing I would check would be the voltage coming out of the charger and make sure the connection between the camera and charger is a clean one. I have to clean the contacts on my cell phone from time to time to get the connection made.

    Re: not charging

Unluckily just letting the batteries set and not using or charging them for a long time will make the batteries go bad. I'm sorry but they need to be used, or you will have to buy new.

    Re: not charging

It sure shouldn't go bad sitting around, for less than 2 months.

I'd return it as defective, seeing as it's so new. Contact the store and if they're no help call Sanyo directly. Batteries do need to be used but it should be fine after two months, and at this point it should easily be covered by warranty.

After only two months it should not go bad. And I AGREE with another view, return the batteries as there are defective.

That's true of NiCd, but less for NiMH and I think not at all for LiIon.
The newer the technology in the battery the less care and feeding it needs.
This camera uses a LiIon battery, lithium ion is far more forgiving and shoudl not give a problem being left for weeks unattended.

However "Took it out of box Xmas day and snapped all day" - you didn't mention reading the instructions (not that any man does that!) or charging it fully before using it...

    I checked the E1000 manual online http://www.sanyo.co.uk/download/1023644.pdf
"The Status LED lights Red when charging has started and stops illuminating when the charging is complete."
"The LED Flashes red for one second and then lights green constantly when a charging error occurs or there is no battery inserted inside the camera."

Which is exactly the opposite of what you said !

This could be good news - or there are two versions of the camera/manual.
"mine is the red light which in the manual says an error has occured"
According to the online pdf manual a red light is exactly what you want.
