No images in viewfinder or on screen

We have a Canon PowerShot S2 IS that has worked perfectly fine until recently when the images disappeared from the viewfinder and no photos can be taken. Everything else on the display works fine...turning the camera on shows the Canon logo, the settings can be clearly seen, the menu works fine and we can view photos that were previously taken before the blankness hit us. We did not drop the camera and it has not been jossled, bumped, wet, or other damage that we know of. It just seems that the lens has stopped "seeing". It does seems to open and close okay and no dirt, etc is noticed.
Any ideas/suggestions? We have missed a lot of good photos since this started.
    Thanks ever so.

Re: No images in viewfinder or on screen

You might want to do a Yahoo search for the Canon Service Advisory. I had a Canon Camcorder that was experiencing the same problems. I could watch a video that I had recorded, and I could even input video through the Video In and see it, but I could only see black blank tape when I tried recording normally. It turns out that a bad batch of CCDs got put into cameras, and the wiring was coming undone.

So I'd try a Yahoo search to see which cameras were affected, and you also might want to call Canon as well and see what they want you to do about it.
