    Nikon lens focus

Hello New to forum, was looking for broadway photo and found this site, thank goodness. Have only switched to af Nikons this year, so do'nt know much about them. Bought used af 35-105mm, and it has stopped focusing in af or manual once you zoom out passed 35mm Any ideas if repairable, lens not very expense bay and etc, or make a paperweight out of it. Any ideas? Thanks

    Re: Nikon lens focus

If you purchase it less than 90 days ago I would take it back if you purchased it from a store. If it was purchased from Ebay, I would contact the seller and see if any adjustments could be made. Also I would check the local camera repair shops and see if it's cheaper to fix it or get another lens. Another thing does the camera work with other lenses, and does that lens work correctly on a different Nikon body?

    Smile Re: Nikon lens focus

Bought off eBay, have had the lens 8 months, never really used it till a couple of days ago. Other af lens work fine, also wo'nt work on my back up camera. Got lens in a package, so at most I have maybe $15 in it. I have the 35-105 mm covered with other lens. There is a camera store about 40 miles south, guess the next time I need film I'll take it along. Was hoping there might be some quick fix, heck I may take it apart:idea: then I can toss lol: Thanks for the reply. Happy Holidays David

If the image quality is good, just use it as a manual focus lens

I've got the manual focus version of it (its supposed to be that way) and I love mine.

Once you zoom out past 35mm it will not focus in af or manual. At 35mm both af and manual work. You have some great camera gear, I almost ordered a d40 from broadway yesterday, thats how I found this forum. But I sure love my f4.

Hi and welcome. You could try Authorized Photo Service who repairs Nikon gear in Illinois at 800-406-2046. They might give you an estimate over the phone, but it could be cheaper just to buy another used one. Then sell the bad one on ebay as "non-working, for parts only". I did that once and got more than I thought for my old 28-105 with a chipped front element that was going to cost what it was worth to repair.

I haven't used them myself but a friend has several times, and recommended them when I bounce-tested a flash off a rock recently. Thanks for the reminder to get it done!

Just remember the D40 doesn't have a in camera body AF motor. Check the lens compatibility at: http://www.nikonians.org/nikon/slr-lens.html

Thanks for the welcome. Yesterday had to make trek to the big city for Christmas shopping. Stopped at shop where I get my film, explained what lens was doing cheaper to replace. Like the eBay idea, thanks.

    Re: Nikon lens focus

Thanks for heads up on the d40. Love shooting film, but sometimes I sure would like to see a shot right away. Getting film developed is sort of like opening a gift, but sometimes that shot that I bracketed and then bracketed again was not what I wanted. I have had manual slrs since the late 60's, and just took pictures. Now that I have retired, I really want to go forward, and have learned I've a long way to go.
