    Nikon D50 Autofocus Problem

I just got my camera today and I've been using it a lot. Autofocusing has been great until just now. It completely stopped and I'm not sure what to do. The switches on the exterior are set to autofocus, but when I gently hold down the button, it just wont focus. Is it broken?

A couple of other things you might want to check - does the battery have a full charge? Right out of the box, the battery probably won't last long and low batteries can make strange things happen. Also, is the lens properly mounted? With the camera turned off, try to take it off and put it back on. There are electronic contacts between the camera and lens - just a thought.

Also is the camera on? Also depending on the lense there may be a auto-manual switch there also. Is the lense on the camera a non-auto focus lense, it so make sure that ISO is not set on auto, other wise the carmera will act brain dead.

None of the things you mentioned was a problem.

It's actually fixed now. Atleast temporarily. I had my dad look at it and he found a reset button on the body of the camera (although I can't find it :blush2: ), which made it start working again. I'm still confused as to why it stopped in the first place. But I found a couple of other people online whose autofocus stopped working as well. I'm worried that it might keep happening without explanation.

Check the Nikon web site, there may be a firmware update that fixs the bug (it is a computer controlled device)
