    My beercan just died...

I was using it on some birds this morning and it wouldn't AF. Tried MF and it only goes from minimum distance to just past 1.2 meters. Anybody know any tricks or something stupid I might be doing? Toast? - TF

Bummer! That's such a nice lens... I don't have any tricks to help out. I wonder if something came loose and lodged in the focus gears.. A definite bummer... Even with the higher prices these lenses fetch these days, it's still cheaper than paying for a repair, no matter how basic it is.

If it comes down to it, I do have an extra one that was a solid 8+ until a filter broke on it during travel and chipped the lens a little bit... Doesn't seem to affect image quality much, but it's been replaced by a newer mint copy I picked up for a bargain..

If you are into a little work on your own, I think there is a CD out there that covers basic assembly of most of the old Minolta lenses that can be grabbed for cheap off eBay. A lot of users over at Dyxum.com have used it, and might have some ideas as well.

Thanks. I found a procedure for repair on pbase and may give it a try. Don't know what I'm going to do about another one. I keep finding reason not to sell the Canon with the 70-200 and this is another one. - TF
